Weekly Breath Prayers: April 2026
Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

“Rejoice! We share the Good News for all to hear!”
Good news is hard to come by some days. But this? This changes everything. Christ is risen. Not just once upon a time—but right now, still alive, still moving, still loving. And that kind of love? It doesn’t expire with the headlines. It doesn’t fade with the week. It stays.
A breath prayer is something you can take with you—simple, steady, always within reach. When life feels heavy—rejoice. When things don’t go your way—rejoice. When you’re not sure what’s next—rejoice. Not because everything is perfect… but because Jesus is alive, and that changes how we walk through it all.
And here’s the gift—we don’t just receive this Good News, we become carriers of it. In your kindness. In your patience. In your presence. You may never preach a sermon—but you will preach a life. And the world is watching, waiting, hoping for something real.

“When melody fills the air, God's love is there.”
There’s something about music that stays with us. Even after Easter has come and gone, the songs linger—the ones we carry in our memory, the ones that carry us in return. Sometimes all it takes is a single note, a familiar lyric, and suddenly your heart remembers something your mind forgot...that you are not alone.
Today, as music fills this space, let it become prayer. When a song moves you— when your heart stirs, when emotion rises—just breathe it in. Let the melody remind you that God is near...closer than your next breath.
And as you step into the week ahead, carry that rhythm with you. Let your life echo what you’ve received—through kindness, through presence, through simple moments of grace. A smile, a pause, a word of encouragement—these are the melodies the world needs. Because wherever you go... whatever you face...

“You formed us, God – shape us for good.”
Take a breath in...and as you breathe out, let that become your prayer. We believe something foundational about who we are—that we are not random, not accidental...but created. Formed. Known. God has shaped each one of us—intentionally, uniquely. And no two of us look the same, think the same, or experience life the same way. But what if the truest part of who we are isn’t what others see on the outside... but what God sees within? A reflection of goodness. Kindness. Gentleness.
The truth is—we’re still being formed. None of us are finished yet. We’re all in process... growing, changing, becoming. And so this week, we carry this prayer with us—walking with God, asking for guidance, trusting that the One who created us is still shaping us into something beautiful. That who we are becoming is pleasing in God’s sight.
As you go through your week—in conversations, in challenges, in quiet moments—let this prayer ground you. Ask God to soften your heart. To help you see the good in others. To remind you that you were created on purpose, for a purpose. Not just to exist...but to reflect God’s goodness in the world.

“Holy Spirit, awaken us -revive us again!”
If we are completely honest with ourselves, at some point in our life we have caught ourselves flying on auto pilot...running through the motions without actually engaging with all around us. Some days just getting through the day seems to be our only goal...survival of completing the tasks ahead. Yet as we learned from Pastor Kenneth last Sunday "there is nothing random about our existence". Our existence should not be driven by auto pilot!
This breath prayer beseeches Spirit to pull us out of routine and come alive again. A simple prayer to remind us that we are here for a God given purpose. We pray to revive our deep desire to celebrate life and embrace all that we have been blessed with every day. This prayer is handy especially for those days when survival mode seems to be our only option.
I am going to encourage you to practice with me as we think about our upcoming week...with enthusiasm!
