Christ Caring for People through People
Growing out of Milford First's desire to live out Christ’s call to “bear one another’s burdens,” Stephen Ministry is an important part of our church's commitment to truly seeing, hearing, and supporting one another. For over 25 years, trained Stephen Ministers have faithfully walked alongside members of our congregation and community, offering prayerful presence and compassionate support during seasons of grief, transition, and personal struggle.
What Stephen Ministry IS
Stephen Ministry is a Christ-centered caregiving ministry in which trained lay members—Stephen Ministers—provide confidential, one-to-one emotional and spiritual support. It is grounded in prayer, guided by Scripture, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Stephen Ministers are equipped to listen, encourage, and reflect God’s love to individuals facing difficulties such as illness, loss, family challenges, or major life changes.
What Stephen Ministry IS NOT
Stephen Ministry is not counseling, therapy, or crisis intervention. Stephen Ministers do not replace pastors or professional caregivers, make decisions for care receivers, or offer legal, medical, or financial advice. Instead, they serve as compassionate companions—showing up, listening deeply, and trusting God to bring healing.
