Spiritual Direction at Milford First

Spiritual direction is a quiet, sacred space to explore your spiritual journey with a compassionate listener who holds your story without judgment or advice. If you're longing for a deeper experience of God or greater spiritual clarity, spiritual direction may be for you.

What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is a contemplative practice in which one person (the directee) meets regularly with a trained spiritual director to explore the directee’s spiritual life and deepen their relationship with the divine.

While rooted in ancient religious traditions, spiritual direction welcomes people from a wide range of beliefs and backgrounds, focusing on inner growth, spiritual freedom, and authentic connection to meaning and purpose.

The ultimate purpose of spiritual direction is spiritual formation. Although the term “spiritual director” is commonly used, it’s not about giving direction or advice or fixing problems—it’s more like creating sacred space for discernment, attentive listening, and practicing awareness to notice how the Spirit is moving in one’s everyday experiences.

Meet with a Spiritual Director

The director and directee meet about once per month for about one hour. Monthly meetings continue if the director and directee agree to continue, in some cases for a few months, and in some cases for many years. Everything shared in a spiritual direction relationship is considered completely confidential.
