Weekly Breath Prayers: March 2026

Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

“Set our hearts on the feast before us.”

Pastor Kenneth often references the importance of sitting around a family table to share a meal.  It is a staple of Midwestern values…to eat and converse together, gathered in unity, even if for a few minutes. The real family conversations occur when you break bread together. This week’s breath prayer is focused on envisioning just such a feast with our heavenly Father.

There are social media posts that circulate asking “What if Jesus showed up at your dinner table?” evoking a real question! What would you ask? What would you serve? How much time and effort would you spend preparing the perfect feast for our Lord?

As we pray as a community this week, let us focus our hearts on the feast that lies ahead for us. Pause and reflect on what corners of your heart need to soften and what corners of your heart are strong enough to share the love of Christ with others. Prayerfully we prepare our hearts dear Lord!

“May our worship shape us and the generations to come.”

We are a product of our forefathers and mothers. Our parents, grandparents and great grandparents left lasting images on our hearts. They have had a huge impact on molding us into what and whom we have become. We take all the interactions, lessons and experiences, positive and negative, as we shape ourselves into the person we are today.

The same is true for us moving forward…we have the capacity to lift others up and share the love of Christ with all we meet. When we gather to worship, we are a community. How we greet each other and receive each other leaves a lasting impression. Our enthusiasm and deep love for one another must be evident if we hope to carry out our Father’s wishes!

From the newest infant member of our church to the oldest patron saint, this week let us pray that our worship is truly honoring the Wesleyan spirit. May our breath prayer this week inspire us to exude all the love we feel in our hearts to all we meet!

“We celebrate renewal with trumpet sounds.”

In Scripture, the sound of the trumpet meant something important was happening. It called people to gather. It signaled a new beginning. It reminded God’s people to wake up… and remember who they belonged to. Even today, sound has that power. A few notes of a song can take you back years. The laughter of a friend across the room makes you turn your head. A familiar voice calls your name, and suddenly you feel seen. God often gets our attention the same way— through the sounds that stir our hearts in worship.

Today we remember that following Christ is not a one-time moment— it’s a life continually renewed by grace. Every time we gather, every time we sing, every time we pray, God is doing something new in us. The music we lift in this place is more than just sound. It’s a reminder that in Christ we are forgiven, restored, and made new.

This week, whenever you pause to pray this breath prayer, imagine the sound of the trumpet calling God’s people together. Imagine the music rising. Imagine your heart waking up again to the grace of God. Because in Christ, renewal is always possible.

“In these days, we honor what is sacred.”

Have you ever had one of those moments where time just… slows down? Where something feels bigger than words—holy, even? Maybe it’s in a quiet room, a conversation that goes deeper than expected, or a moment right here in this space…and you can’t quite explain it—you just know: God is here.

So often, we rush right past those moments. We fill every silence. We move on too quickly. But this prayer is an invitation to do something different…to pause. To breathe. To notice. To honor what God is doing right here, right now. As we pray, let your breath slow you down—inhale the presence of God…exhale everything that distracts you.

This week, may you find holy ground in unexpected places— In quiet moments, in honest prayers, in the people right in front of you. Don’t rush past it. Linger a little longer. Listen a little deeper. Let it become part of you.

“We walk the path with you, Lord, ready in heart and mind.”

Thanks to technology, we have watches and phones that calculate our daily steps. We are encouraged to get 10,000 steps in a day to stay healthy. But what technology cannot track is how many of those steps are spent walking with our Lord? Praying on your feet can be powerful because you are inviting the Lord to walk beside you as you move through the day, not just when we wake up or before we go to sleep.

Praying on our feet also causes us to be more alert to see opportunities around us with fresh eyes. Actively involving our heart and mind into conversation with our Lord evokes a sincerity of our time. It encourages us to be aware to all that might be a part of His divine plan during our day. There is no activity too small to walk in prayer!  If we do it often enough, we might even gain a fresh perspective on our daily life path that has been overlooked.

So back to the original thought…if you had to estimate how many of your 10,000 steps is spent in prayer or conversing with our Lord, what would your number be? This week’s breath prayer is your perfect opportunity AND motivation to increase that number! Open up your heart…open up your mind…and invite Him to walk with you this week.
