Weekly Breath Prayers: September 2025
Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

Lord, I lay bare my heart—You know me completely.
For all who struggle to find the right words in prayer, take comfort: our Heavenly Father already knows what lives within us. He does not ask for eloquence or long prayers—only that we come, fully present, and rest in His love.
What freedom it is to know that God sees us as we are—our strengths and our weaknesses, our joys and our griefs, our gains and our losses—and still holds us close. Prayer is not about perfect words, but about the courage to be still in His presence.
This week, set aside a few quiet moments—in the morning, before sleep, or in the middle of your day. Breathe this prayer slowly, and then wait on the Lord. You may discover the very peace your soul is seeking.

Teach me to forgive - soften the rough edges within me.
Forgiveness…the voluntary decision to let go of anger or resentment toward someone who has hurt you. My guess is that everyone in here could name someone they are struggling to forgive right this very minute! Kind gestures and words are a joy to receive but it takes just that one awful conflict to stick with you, often deep to the core!
The crazy thing is when you truly forgive someone, you actually free yourself! The weight of all that pain is lifted off your shoulders and you can finally move forward. The beauty of prayer is that even when our heart is heavy, we can invite Spirit into that dark core to set free those feeling of anger and resentment.
We all have rough edges…some more than others, some days more than others! But this breath prayer is the initial step toward leading your heart back to love and grace. Take the time to name someone that you need to forgive. Every time they pop back up in your head, offer this breath prayer up and I pray it brings you closer to true healing!

No matter the day… Lead me to only actions of love.
Our days seem to be filled with adversity, conflict, and frustrations. Perhaps it is the constant news or social media, but anger seems to be perpetually at the forefront. As Kenneth so eloquently spoke to last Sunday, anger gets us nowhere. We have been given the ultimate gift of forgiveness so we must move forward in love.
We diffuse anger with love and kindness. We soften adversity by focusing on how we can be a part of a positive solution. At the core, we must pray, calling on our heavenly Father to lead us to respond in a loving manner always. It is clear we cannot do that alone; prayer recharges us!
So please practice with me…
For my coworker that conflicts with my ideas: No matter the day… Lead me to only actions of love.
When family members disappoint me deeply: No matter the day… Lead me to only actions of love.
The minute I hear controversy on the news: No matter the day… Lead me to only actions of love.
As I sit on the edge of the bed, ready for a new day: No matter the day… Lead me to only actions of love.
