Weekly Breath Prayers: February 2026
Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

“By your transforming power, we are made generous.”
Selfless giving…we all say we want it. But in real life, it’s hard. Time, money, energy—we clutch them when we feel scarce. That last $20 bill. That free evening. We hesitate, we make excuses.
The caterpillar struggles in its cocoon, yet emerges as a breathtaking butterfly. Giving our time, our gifts, our hearts can feel that way too—overwhelming. Tutoring a child, volunteering, saying yes when it costs us. And yet, a smile, a hug, a ripple of love reminds us: it’s worth it.
If selfless giving were easy, we’d all be doing it. We need encouragement. We need God’s Spirit to open our hearts, renew our minds, and help us step forward.

“Thank you, Lord, for those who serve quietly.”
For those of us who struggle to find the words to pray, a breath prayer is all you need! A simple phrase you can recite during the week to help settle your heart and focus your intentions. This week being Scout Sunday, reflecting on those who serve seems mighty fitting!
Service...giving of your time, talents and energies is truly a gift from God. We all can serve but don't always answer the call. In praying this week, we lift all of those who give of themselves to others. We are grateful to you. We acknowledge and appreciate that you chose to put others before yourself. Your dedication makes this world a better place!
The signature of a true servant? They do so silently without boasting. That humble servitude is a real gift to all of us. So, this week as we use this breath prayer, specifically add in all the servants you meet during the week.

“Let our love be shown not just spoken.”
A breath prayer, a simple way to connect to our Triune God but also a phrase to remind ourselves of the priorities of our Lord and Savior Jesus spoke of love...spoke with love...exemplified love. It is the ultimate commandment to love our neighbor. With all this knowledge, surely love should be our first and ultimate priority!
But we are humans...it is easy to recite prayers and Bible verses...to actually live out love in action is a real challenge. Daily we meet those who seem unlovable...angry, combative, dismissive, distant. Those are the very love in action we earnestly pray for this week. We pray for the courage to see past those fronts, those roadblocks and truly demonstrate our love.
What if ALL of us truly prayed this breath prayer fiercely, demonstrated loving responses at work...on the streets...in our cars...at home? Would it cause others to stop and stare? Would it transform our community? Our workplace? Our home? We won't know unless we ALL commit to show love everywhere we go AND prayerfully ask for the strength to do so. Let us be the hands and feet of Jesus this week.

“May our lives reflect our true commitments.”
Last week, we focused on love in action…living out our lives not just talking about it. That is a commitment that truly can change our lives, our community and even our world. Commitment…the promise to keep and put into action. Commitments take a full investment to see fully into action.
One of the best ways to demonstrate our personal commitments is in our daily lives. Sharing our love and faith with others in action, every single day is our aspiration. Prayer helps us to “seal the deal” with our Father. On the occasions when following through is more challenging, we can lean on this breath prayer to give us the extra courage and determination we need to fully present o ourselves as we intend to do…a prayer when we are weary, a prayer when those we meet disappoint us, a prayer when true commitment begins to crumble.
I encourage you to put this week’s breath prayer where you first see your own reflection…and then pause each day…who do you see? Who do you hope to see? Recite this prayer to yourself and lift it up. May it be a piece in the firm foundation of your commitment!
