Weekly Breath Prayers: December 2025
Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

Let peace guide and dwell within me.
This second Sunday in Advent, our breath prayer focuses on the concept of peace. Peace on Earth seems like such a hollow message when you take a very close look at our world today! Yet if we all gather in humble prayer for peace to guide our actions and our words, perhaps it could be the true start to the genuine peace we seek!
We cannot expect the world to find peace when we ourselves are in turmoil. Letting go of impatience, frustration and even anger requires tremendous work. If we truly invite peace to dwell within us and are willing to pray heartily, we can be one step closer to a kinder, gentler self. Will there be frustrations? Sure! But how we choose to respond can be completely reframed with our Lord walking beside us.
In Matthew Chapter 3, John the Baptist tells the people to “wait for the coming of one who is more powerful”. Excellent advice for us in today’s world as well.
Pray..........prepare your hearts.
Pray..........wait with anticipation for the one who is more powerful.
Pray..........allow peace to dwell within our restless spirits.

Fill our hearts with the melodies of Advent.
Music can be incredibly healing, even more so than modern medicine sometimes! It can transport us back in time, recreate vivid emotions, all with just a few notes! Music is a universal language transcending generations, cultures, and religions.
Today our choir will fill our hearts and our minds with the music of Advent. Breathe it in. Allow it to fill you up as we wait in anticipation of the Christ Child. Let the music drown out the ‘to do’ lists and the worries with joy and purity. Let the rhythms slow your heart rate and cause you to breathe more deeply.
On this third Sunday in Advent, let us commit to pray and allow these tunes to lift us up this week. When the hustle and bustle become overwhelming, take in a deep breath and recite this breath prayer. Close your eyes and recall how it feels to be in this sanctuary and recall all you feel today.
