Weekly Breath Prayers: October 2026
Updated: 5 days ago
Every Sunday, we begin our worship services with a simple breath prayer from Milford First's lay leader to guide us through the week. Below are this month’s breath prayers along with weekly reflections from Deb Johnson. We hope these prayers are meaningful tools for your spiritual life and journey!

"Holy Spirit, join me in this pause."
What busy lives we lead! Phone calls, emails, texts, appointments and schedules
push us into a flurry of daily activity. Often, we allow that outside noise to catch
us up in a swirl of busyness that causes us to lose sight of who we are and what
is important to our inner selves. Sometimes it is simply exhausting! But the
amazing news is there is a quick and easy solution...PAUSE! Just pause!
Do you imagine our Father gets exhausted hearing us come to Him in prayer like
we do our daily lives? Do we jump right in rattling off our concerns and
supplications without properly pausing? How much more powerful might our
prayers be if we paused first? Perhaps the outcome might be far better for our
inner selves
This week, before you utter one request...one prayer...one "Dear God"...lift up
this breath prayer...and then truly pause...allow Spirit to enter your heart, clear
your head from the noise, ease your soul of the burdens you bear...before you
even utter anther word.

"In You, I am known. Among your people, I belong."
This week's breath prayer is a prayer to move closer to our real selves, the inner
self that God made purposely and uniquely beautiful. We live in a world where
perception is everything...we are told how to dress, wear our hair, live our lives
...to fit in with the general population. We walk into rooms and often pretend to
be someone we think others expect us to be. While that may work in the
moment, it often leaves us feeling empty on the inside. But...
This week we hope to return to the beautiful soul God intended us to
be...unapologetically authentic. That is going to take serious prayer for the
courage to step out as our real selves. Being authentic means being
vulnerable enough to expose who we are and trusting we will be accepted as we
are. With the Lord walking beside us, we can do just that.
Not only do we have the Holy Three encouraging us on, we have the beauty of
this community here to support our efforts. When we love and accept each other
as we are within these walls, we will gain the strength to do the same outside of
these walls. May we carry that light out into the world!
