Who We Are in a Nutshell
- We are a Christian fellowship, called to be disciples of Jesus Christ, to accept his call to radical discipleship, and to share with others the truth about the love and grace of God.
- We are people on a spiritual journey, helping and supporting one another to discover for each one of us how Christ can impact our lives and lead us toward a righteous life.
- We are God's children, understanding that we belong to God, putting ourselves under his power and authority.
- We are a rebellious people, accepting the consequences and responsibility for our sins, seeking forgiveness as we look for healing and new opportunities for faithfulness.
- We live in hope with a vision of God's kingdom, and provide our resources with God's mission to the least, the last, and the lost, serving out of love and gratitude for Jesus Christ.
- We are powered by our faith in Christ, accepting God's forgiveness, and feel freedom in our world through loving God and loving neighbor.
- We commit our lives completely to God and to serve as God wills.
Milford First traces it roots back to 1797 when the Reverend Francis McCormick organized a Methodist Class Meeting at his log home. This gathering became the first of its kind in the Northwest Territory, and was the beginning of our current congregation.
The first church was built on Main Street in 1818 as the first Methodist church in the area. A new church was built on the present site in 1835. Although the sanctuary has had several renovations over the years, we still worship today in the 1835 Sanctuary.
But Milford First doesn't rest on its heritage alone, for great things are happening today! Our beautiful, spacious Family Life Center provides much added class room and recreation space for our congregation and the community.
Today, our congregation has over 1200 members. We are growing and now provide three distinct worship services for our community. These include an innovative traditional service in the Sanctuary, a contemporary service and a youth-oriented service, "The Ride", in the Great Hall of the Family Life Center.
In addition, we offer Christian Education classes for all ages, taught by teachers who truly care about their service. We offer Disciple Bible Study and Alpha classes for adults.
We are a mission oriented congregation as well, and support our denomination's Mission Program, as well as the local Milford-Miami Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers in Mission, and Interfaith Hospitality Network. Other opportunities abound with activities and programs from the United Methodist Woman and UM Men.
Youth activities include a Youth Fellowship group, scouting troops, and serve as host church for Chrysalis Weekends (youth version of The Walk to Emmaus). We also have a number of team sports church softball, basketball, and volleyball.
Other service opportunities include acolytes, coffee hour, communion Stewards, greeters, ushering, teaching, and many others.
The Family Life Center
We are blessed to have a wonderful music program with opportunities in the Altar choir, youth choir, children's choir, hand bell choir, brass ensemble, flute ensemble, and various men's and women's ensembles throughout the year.
We hope you will take the simple steps to contact us or come and visit.
